Quotes and Cookies: Gift of Fantasy

"When I examine myself and my methods of thought I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than my talent for absorbing knowledge."

~Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein said that. ALBERT EINSTEIN, people! He was one of the most knowledgeable people ever. So why did he value the gift of fantasy over his talent for absorbing knowledge? [Not fantasy as a genre, of course-- fantasy as the ability to picture things that don't currently exist.] I suppose he said it because having all the practical knowledge in the world gets you nowhere if you don't have the imagination to create something with it. How to imagine it being put to use in different ways.

Just like having all the book knowledge on how to write means very little if you don't use it to create something new. Something you haven't thought of before. Imagine things in different ways.

So grab a cookie! Then let your imagination go and dream fabulous things.

Don't they look tasty? Fellow writer / blogger / frequent commenter, Scrivener-lover and cookie baker Leigh Ann Kopans made these! Don't you just want to pick one up and eat it? Because you could. In the Word Processor Wars comments, she said that she would ship cookies to the first person who was willing to give Scrivener an earnest try. What better incentive could you have than cookies?

Really? Try scrivener...get cookies. That sounds like good incentive. Good post Pegs. I want to write something that hasn't been written about before.

Einstein rules. I'm always praising my kids when they show great imagination, because I believe the same thing.

I am not kidding you guys, those cookies are waiting for you in my freezer.

Have an awesome weekend!

I love the idea of doing something that has never been done before! Or at least something familiar in a different light.

Okay, I'm totally hungry now. I love that Albert Einstein quote. I may have to put that up in my office at work.

Those cookies look so very tasty.

I LOVE that quote. Imagination is so important and it's always awesome to me that Albert Einstein thought so, too.

Indeed - it does not matter how beautifully you can write if you have nothing to write about. I must admit, that is my single biggest obstacle.

Shilpa-- Totally! Maybe it would've gotten more little red people next to the WriteMonkey logo!

Jessie-- I know! It's great incentive! If we had a mac in the house, I'd totally give it a try. It looks like the windows version is supposed to come out this year, but I don't think it's out yet.

Leigh Ann-- You rock!

Tara-- Rich with knowledge and not with calories. LOVE IT!

Ruth-- I guess "something familiar in a different light" is more correct. But we can go ahead and call it something that's never been done before. It sounds so much cooler that way.

Carrie-- Hehehehehe! I know what you mean. I hope you have a great weekend, too!

Mark-- I'm a definite fan of both.

Jolene-- Awww! I love when people really love their strengths! I think sometimes people don't appreciate them (at least out loud) for fear it might sound like bragging, or that they only focus on their weaknesses, or that they just never think to be grateful for their strengths. I love that you appreciate yours! SO VERY AWESOME. A creative brain is a VERY awesome strength indeed.

Lydia-- It carries so much more weight when it comes from Albert Einstein!

Shell-- I often wish I had some home made cookies next to me when I bring up my blog. Happy eating!

Maeve-- Thanks! And I know! My mouth waters ever single time.

Jeff- Thanks!

Jennifer-- Thanks! Have you had the urge to lick your screen? I know I have. :)

Abby-- I wish I could too. Sigh. And thank you!!

Laura-- It's a nice thought when what you think is so important is the same thing Albert Einstein (!) thought was important too.

E.D.-- Sometimes I feel like my plot lies behind a reinforced steel wall in my brain, and I have to beat and beat and beat on that wall until I can punch a hole big enough to pull some things through, then I have to start punching at a different spot. Sigh. I hear you. Makes your knuckles sore.
