The Way We Are: Writing Munchies

I know there are some people who can't eat while they're writing. I'm pretty sure the larger percentage of us, though, get the munchies as we write. So my question for today is:

What's your favorite writing food?

Do you go for the junk food, or the healthy food? Or do you skip food entirely and barely even realize you are hungry?

For me, sometimes I get so in the zone, I don't even realize I haven't eaten. That's when I know that some really good writing is happening! When I'm in more of a procrastinatory mode, my favorites are Diet Coke (which I am honestly trying hard not to love so much!) and something crunchy. Like pretzels or M&Ms.

But man. One of those smoothies is looking really good right about now...

Oh! And today is the last day to enter the DIVERGENT giveaway!

I'm big on the candy, but when I write I don't stop to grab food. Depending on the time of day, I either have a Red Bull, a hot tea, or an orange LaCroix within reach.

I could use a smoothie right now, though.

On the weekends in the morning I write it's me, my laptop and coffee.

Other wise just me and my laptop. Eating is distracting for me.

I don't eat much when I write, but when I do grab something it's always junk food. Always.

Usually only liquids...but when I DO crave something...it's either plain M&Ms or trail mix..WITH M&Ms!

If I get in the zone I completely forget to eat, but if things aren't clicking I eat junk food--candy is my drug of choice.

I like just a cup of tea and then I can just write without to many distractions. When the inspiration flows I have to run with it.
;D

Yeah, I want to switch to smoothies or Jamba juice after seeing that picture. I try not to munch... you are right about knowing some good writing is happening when you're not worried about food. I usually grab a water bottle and pretzels if I need something tho.

I am beyond thrilled that I am not one to munch while I am writing. For some reason, snacking is distracting. However, I drink tons of tea. Does that count?

Coffee. Water.

AS for actual food, of the solid variety, I tend to eat whatever it is I would normally eat at that time. Cereal or English muffin, that sort of thing in the morning. If it's lunchtime, maybe a sandwich. Sometimes I'll grab a cup of trail mix or something like that. I don't eat all that much while writing, though, because it keeps my hands off the keyboard.

That would be wine. Two glasses and I'm brilliant. All my inhibitions are gone and my pen flows. Write tipsy...edit sober :)

I don't eat while I'm writing, but that's probably because I write after lunch so I'm already full. :)

If I'm writing in the morning, coffee and a fiber bar - it's sort of like breakfast. In the evening, I don't usually eat while writing unless I'm at the coffee shop. Then it's decaf with vanilla and cinnamon powder and something delicious as a treat for when I finish. Today I'm doing both...hopefully...maybe...if the kids cooperate.

Don't fight your love affair with Diet Coke. It is useless to resist it.

Diet Coke, chocolate covered cinnamon bears and Diet Coke.

You kbow I never thought of it before but I don't actually eat while I write. :)

I get the crunchy-salty munchies USUALLY, but when I'm pregnant, all bets are off. In the last few months, things I couldn't get enough of were: ramen noodles with sriracha, jolly ranchers, donuts (oy,) pasta with marinara, green salad with balsamic vinaigrette, and pudding.

Hm.

I tend to lean towards the salty variety of food. Less messy on the keyboard.

I almost cant write without nourishment. Its true of creative writing and my real job of legal writing. Like right now, I am eating dried fruit and nuts. Surprisingly healthy! I do love me some Diet Coke though!!!

Like a lot of things, I eat to procrastinate. I keep a glass of water beside me while I write and that's about it. I know that as soon as I get up to find a snack I'll get sidetracked and that will be the end of it!

I don't eat or drink while writing, mainly because I get so focused on writing I forget to. Too many cups of cold tea and coffee taught me that.

I love junk food, but when I look at your top picture, it looks disgusting! Can you just make that a huge background on my computer?

Seriously though, usually it's hot chocolate.

I drink water and, if I'm in the zone, write through meal times. Boring, I know! ;)

I love tea and dried fruit. I know the dried fruit isn't really healthy, but I tell myself it's better than eating chips.

I don't eat when I write. I usually have something to drink close by - water or hot tea are my top choices. I try to remember to stop and eat lunch, but sometimes I just forget and don't think to eat until I get the hungry jitters.

Honeycrisp apples.

If I am really tired, I make a caffe latte...

I'm not big on food while I'm writing because...it require hands, lol.

Seriously though, I always have a bottle of water nearby(it absolutely must be a bottle of some sort so if I knock it over it's no big deal). A large mug of hot tea(black tea, usually) with a little sugar and vanilla non-dairy creamer is optional. Sometimes I'll have a tall, ice cold glass of goat's milk with nesquik chocolate syrup instead, but no finger-foods or anything that requires utensils. It too distracting :)p

Diet coke and coffee - always. Sometimes Peanut M&M's. Sometimes (when I'm trying to be healthy) Pea-pods. But my favorite is holiday candy - candy corn, conversation hearts...

Ha, what a fun post! I prefer coffee or tea, and twizzlers :)

I usually don´t eat while writing (probably cos I have short writing sessions for the moment) However, I do drink tea...or water...or juice...

I drink gallons of tea, green tea or white tea, I will snack but its usually just whatever is in the fridge.

Susanna Leonard Hill said...

When I'm in the zone I'm like you - time goes by and I don't even notice whether I've eaten. Alas, that doesn't happen too often... :) I usually have a (rapidly cooling) cup of coffee by my left hand (which I frequently return to the microwave for warn-ups because I like coffee hot!) and I am prone to munching on trail mix or mini snickers bars :)

I'm surprised how many people don't eat at all while they're writing! I find myself wanting to munch on something a lot while I'm drafting.

I want to apologize for not commenting on individual comments the last couple of days! I have been SO SICK. I comment on them in my head as I read them on my phone, :) but I've just been too sick to sit at my computer. I will get back to it, though. I promise!

I don't generally eat when writing. I usually drink tea. And then stop every 300 words for a snack break.
