Quotes and Chocolate Frogs: Amuse Yourself

Happy Harry Potter Day!

Because today is the opening day of the final Harry Potter movie, it only seems right to have a quote from J.K. Rowling! This is so simple, yet can be applied most universally to writing.

“I just write what I wanted to write. I write what amuses me. It’s totally for myself.”

~J. K. Rowling

If you don’t love what you write, the masses aren’t likely to either. Plus, if it amuses you, you get the added bonus of having a blast writing! And people will have a blast reading. Unless, of course, you’re very easily amused. Then uh.... I don’t know. Maybe don’t be amused so easily?

And since it’s J.K., we can have a second quote, right? Of course we can! We’ll do this one just because it’s SO DARN FUNNY.

“Death’s got an Invisibility Cloak?” Harry interrupted again.
“So he can sneak up on people,” said Ron.
“Sometimes he gets bored of running at them, flapping his arms and shrieking...”

~J. K. Rowling (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)

And because it’s only appropriate, instead of having cookies today, how about we share a chocolate frog?

So have you been to see Harry Potter yet? Hubby and I and a bunch of friends went to the 12:30am showing, so I crawled into bed at about three am. I’m [yawn] wow. A little tired this morning. But IT WAS TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY WORTH IT!!

Have you seen the last Harry Potter yet? If not, do you have tickets?

And if you’ve already seen it, WHAT DID YOU THINK?! What was your favorite part? I’m dying to know.

I can't wait to see it! It sounds like it won't disappoint, which is a relief. I want the series to end with a bang. :-)

Janet! I think you'd love them. And the books.

I really liked the movie! I'm still half asleep too. Some times I wonder in the morning if it's worth it. And yes, it was.

I'll start off with I read a ton if you know me you know I never leave home with out a book "no-matter-where" I'm headed! (don't put to much thought into that, just leave it as I read a lot)

With that said I have never read the potter series because I saw the first movie and liked it, and there are just to many movie/book - book/movie combos to truly umm SUCKED in my opinion to believe that the ratio/trend will not continue.

I also do not read a lot of kid oriented books because well I have kids that are cool why would I want to hear about someone else’s kids?

Back to the question at hand. Yes I saw the last and final Harry Potter, and I can honestly say I liked, I mean not nearly as much as some of the cape wearing, wand toting, individuals that were seated around me. But all in all a very good showing.

My personal rant on 2 of the latest horrifying adaptations!
1. Eragon the movie (from hell) if you read the books. Assumedly created from the Eragon books by Christopher Paolini. I mean the only redeeming movie factor was they at least got most of the names right, and there was a dragon.
2. Legend of the Seeker: “@#$%^*! )$#% are you kidding me” Really!!!!
a. Legend of the Seeker is a television series based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind. Distributed in U.S. by Disney-ABC Domestic Television.
b. If anyone out there knows what I mean I’d be happy to rant with you because there is just to much to say here andI don’t want to take any more of Peggys space for it.
c. I’ll just say Love Terry Goodkind, would like to execute everyone involved with this production starting at the top, after severely beating them and making them read the damn books since they obviously did not already.

Happy Friday!

dude.
it was utterly amazing.
I haven't read the seventh book yet because I didn't want it to influence what I thought about the movie.

my favorite part was when ron and hermoine were in the chamber of secrets after she destroys the horcrux and they randomly make out(:
oh it was grand.

but really it was over all amazing.

Anna-- It was awesome! I hope you get to see it soon.

Janet-- Seriously. What the heck are you doing? Really-- what are you doing reading this when you could be watching an entire awesome series?! Stop. Reading. Now. Go rent. That's an order.

Kristine-- I'm totally with you that sometimes midnight showings just aren't worth it. But this TOTALLY was.

Ozzland-- Your comment made me laugh out loud-- in several places! Yes. Some movie adaptations sully the good name of the book. Well... more than just some. Just some WAY worse than others. *coughERAGONcoughSEEKERcough* The book is almost always better than the movie.

And you know... other kids are cool, too, and they want you to read books about them. Kids named Harry and Hermoine and Ron....

And the nice thing about seeing the movies first is a)the characters are in your head, so they can't cast the movie wrong and b) you aren't disappointed by the movie when it doesn't live up to the book. Although I've got to say-- Harry Potter movies rock in that department to begin with.

Olivia-- Yes, yes, YES!! I'm excited for you that you get to read book 7 now, because it's amazing. The movie rushed a lot of things that you will now get the chance to SAVOR.

Wahoo! I went to the midnight movie last night too! Actually, I went to a double feature of part 1 and 2. SOOOOOOOOO INCREDIBLE! I LOVED IT! And today I'm sad that it's all over - I didn't know I would be this sad, but I am - very, very sad. My daughter and I are going to watch all the Harry Potter movies this coming week and then go to Deathly Hallows Part 2 again next weekend. We wanted to do that this week, but it was too busy.
Thanks so much for commenting on my poem on my blog for Shelly's blogfest! You're so wonderful for doing it!

Hi Peggy! I'm a new follower. :) I live in such a small town they didn't even bother with a midnight showing of HP. I went to go see it when the stupid theater finally decided to show it, and it was amazing! My little brother cried. He's becoming an HP addict - I'm so proud!

I haven't seen it but I'm glad everyone is enjoying it. Happy to find your blog.

Brenda-- We're doing the same thing! My kids had never been interested in the movies or the books, so they haven't seen most of them. I FINALLY talked them into letting me read HP to them (we're on book 4). Now that they KNOW how awesome HP is, we are having a movie marathon before we see HP7.5.

Jessie-- I hear you.

Christina-- Eee! I hope you love it!

Madeline-- Gasp! That's criminal! I'm glad you finally got to see it. And yay for HP-addicted little brothers! And I *heart* new followers. Thank you!

Clarissa-- I hope you get a chance to enjoy it, too. And I'm glad you found my blog, too. :) Welcome!
