Let's face it. Both writing things worth reading and doing thing worth writing take a LOT of work. But I have to admit, at least for me, it's one of the driving forces to keep working at this thing we do. Is it for you? The thought of a part of us living on forever. To have our words and our stories be alive long after we are dead. To create something of worth that will stand the test of time. Whether your goal is to have your words read by your future grandchildren / great grandchildren / great great grandchildren, or in even in the hopes of having them someday sit on a shelf in the Library of Congress, that thought can help spur you on through really tough times.
Right? It isn't just me, is it?
Speaking of doing things worth writing about, one of the most awesome people I know has a website that's definitely worth writing about! When she cooks, choirs of angels come down and sing praises. (Although I suspect it's partly because they want to get a whiff of the amazing aromas.) You know those nuggets of wisdom that you want to make sure you impart to your kids? One of mine is that if you ever get a chance to eat her food, NEVER TURN IT DOWN. Her website partner (another friend I'm lucky enough to know in real life), is a food photographer, so everything is so. darn. pretty. And coolest thing ever: they are is doing 12 Cookies of Christmas! I can't even tell you how excited this makes me! So today's cookies are brought to you by Secret Life of a Chef's Wife. It's not just you. I think many (maybe even most) people have this desire for that kind of immortality.
I'm drooling. Those cookies look delish! One of my writing fears (and I have many) is that what I write will not be worthwhile. That it won't make an impact. I want to move someone (anyone!) with my writing.

I want exactly what Franklin addressed. I want to move someone to the point where, when they think back about what I wrote, they re-experience that feeling, each and every time.

And I agree, there is something about leaving a legacy, something that gives you that sliver of immortality.
Cookies may not be immortal but, they are a great comfort food. I believe that true immortality comes only from a life well lived. That takes real courage. ;D

It's not just you. Having your name on a book says, "I was here." Sure, it can say a lot of other things too, but that's the most basic. It's proof that you existed. That you contributed. That your work will live on, long after you're gone. :)
The cookies do look amazing. It's funny, I don't necessarily think about who will read my stuff after I'm gone as much as I want people to read it/have access to it now. But yes, I do understand the legacy.

All of us (writers and non writers alike) have this desire I believe and there are a lot of ways to accomplish it. Writing a book which would still be read in 1000 years would of couse be nice :-)

I have no idea why I'm write. I think I'm an addict. But! I like your reason better. I might steal it. (never trust an addict with the good stuff)
I think most of us are afraid of being forgotten - and most of us will be. But that does not mean we cannot try - we definitely should. It is certainly an objective.
That being said, first and foremost I write because it makes me happy.
Oh, one more thing - I think you forgot to post the recipe....:-)
