"If you would not be forgotten
As soon as you are dead and rotten,
Either write things worth reading,
Or do things worth the writing."
~Benjamin Franklin
Let's face it. Both writing things worth reading and doing thing worth writing take a LOT of work. But I have to admit, at least for me, it's one of the driving forces to keep working at this thing we do. Is it for you? The thought of a part of us living on forever. To have our words and our stories be alive long after we are dead. To create something of worth that will stand the test of time. Whether your goal is to have your words read by your future grandchildren / great grandchildren / great great grandchildren, or in even in the hopes of having them someday sit on a shelf in the Library of Congress, that thought can help spur you on through really tough times.
Right? It isn't just me, is it?
Speaking of doing things worth writing about, one of the most awesome people I know has a website that's definitely worth writing about! When she cooks, choirs of angels come down and sing praises. (Although I suspect it's partly because they want to get a whiff of the amazing aromas.) You know those nuggets of wisdom that you want to make sure you impart to your kids? One of mine is that if you ever get a chance to eat her food, NEVER TURN IT DOWN. Her website partner (another friend I'm lucky enough to know in real life), is a food photographer, so everything is so. darn. pretty. And coolest thing ever: they are is doing 12 Cookies of Christmas! I can't even tell you how excited this makes me! So today's cookies are brought to you by Secret Life of a Chef's Wife. I hope you enjoy staring at their truffle center as much as I do.

Have a FABULOUS weekend, everyone!

It's not just you. I think many (maybe even most) people have this desire for that kind of immortality.
I'm drooling. Those cookies look delish! One of my writing fears (and I have many) is that what I write will not be worthwhile. That it won't make an impact. I want to move someone (anyone!) with my writing.
Ummm, I haven't eaten breakfast yet. Pass me one of those cookies?? (*grabs cookie...then another*)
Great quote! Have a fantastic weekend!
On the subject of cookies... when you announced your book deal, it said that you were made a generous offer. Is it true that the deal was a lifetime supply of cookies?
Those are some delicious looking cookies.
To be read well after I'm dead ... you pretty much nailed one of my motivations. I'm just not all that good at anything else. :)
I love the quote. And, as usual whenever you mention Tammy (though not by name!) I always feel I need to restate that I love Tammy! I've imparted that wisdom to my kiddos too.
I just read Lain's comment - Hahahahahaha!
I want exactly what Franklin addressed. I want to move someone to the point where, when they think back about what I wrote, they re-experience that feeling, each and every time.
I'll be sending you the bill for a new keyboard because this one is drenched. I'm not big on pepper chocolate, but yum.
That is one large and in charge photo you've got there, Peggy! **giggle** Thanks for the EXPOSURE!!!
There is a Lady Antebellum song about this that I love...doing something with your life of significance. I love that idea.
mmmf gmf mmfn
sorry, eating yummy cookie! thanks!
and those that stick it out, reap the rewards!
OK, when I saw the title of that recipe, I thought "Wow, mushrooms in a cookie? That's crazy!"
Wrong kind of truffle on the brain, I guess... =)
Delicious looking cookies there. Got my tummy grumbling for something chocolatey delicious.
And I agree, there is something about leaving a legacy, something that gives you that sliver of immortality.
Cookies may not be immortal but, they are a great comfort food. I believe that true immortality comes only from a life well lived. That takes real courage. ;D
Awesome quote today. SO TRUE! But I am highly distracted by those cookies. I need to go get the recipe and bake today!
I've actually never thought of being remembered that way. Except if you count journaling, I guess. More narrow readership. :) Maybe I should start that again...
Okay, I'm drooling over the cookies. Did you say something else? ;)
My mouth is watering.
That may be one of the most delicious looking cookies I have ever seen!
Oh I'm so happy that you posted Tammy's cookies. They're the bomb. Thanks for the great quote!
OMG, Twelve Cookies of Christmas?? Let the drooling commence!
THOSE COOKIES LOOK SO YUMMY!!!!
Have a great weekend.
This quote is so on the money. What is writing if not an attempt to leave something meaningful behind when we're gone.
I need to go eat some cookies now!
Dang...those cookies in the picture make me hungry. They look delicious and warm.
It's not just you. Having your name on a book says, "I was here." Sure, it can say a lot of other things too, but that's the most basic. It's proof that you existed. That you contributed. That your work will live on, long after you're gone. :)
The cookies do look amazing. It's funny, I don't necessarily think about who will read my stuff after I'm gone as much as I want people to read it/have access to it now. But yes, I do understand the legacy.
JeffO-- Yay! It's not just me! That makes me feel tons better.
Ruth-- I know! I want to move someone, too. I want them to cry at the parts that make me cry. I want them to laugh at the parts that make me laugh. Get excited at the parts that excite me. Anyone will do.
Kelley-- I hope you have a great weekend, too!
Iain-- Yep! You guessed it! They found the secret (or maybe not so secret) thing to offer. I now have a cookie room in my house. It pretty much rocks.
David-- Me, neither. It's pretty much this or nothing. ;)
Kristine-- I love Tammy, too. And I know! His comment killed me!
Tasha-- Ahh. Me, too.
Joshua-- Hahahaaha! Just turn it upside down for a few hours. It'll be okay. ;)
Tammy-- You think I'm not going to use every inch of available space when I'm showing pics of cookies? Especially YOUR cookies? Not going to happen. *giggle*
Jessie-- I love it, too.
Tara T-- Your onomatopoeia rocks my world every single time!
Tara-- Hahaha! That's awesome!
Angela-- Legacy- yes, please. Immortality- sign me up!
WilyBCool-- "Immortality comes only from a life well lived." Well said.
Leigh-- Ooo! I hope you do! I've tried said cookies, and they are to die for.
Carterista-- Journaling TOTALLY counts! In every way! Definitely start again. :)
Janet-- Nope. Nothing at all. :D
Kelly-- I completely agree!
Erin-- THE BOMB. They make me happy, too. As does everything she makes.
LisaAnn-- I know, right?!
Jenny-- I hope you have a great weekend, too!
Lan-- I totally agree. On both counts. :)
Michael-- Dang. Now I'm hungry again.
Carrie-- I love that! Dang. I should have had you write my post today.
Christa-- Well, who reads it NOW is pretty darn important, too. :)
I need to close my mouth, it´s been open since I saw those cookies :-))
All of us (writers and non writers alike) have this desire I believe and there are a lot of ways to accomplish it. Writing a book which would still be read in 1000 years would of couse be nice :-)
I don't think I'm clever enough to bake anything that gorgeous, but I would like some delivered to my door! :)
Yummy cookies.

Going to subscribe so I don't miss any of the recipes.
Just letting you know, I gave you a blog award...which may just be better than cookies, you decide :)
Have an awesome weekend!
Hi Peggy,
I've awarded you an award on my blog.
Richard
Okay yum on the cookies! Lol.
I have no idea why I'm write. I think I'm an addict. But! I like your reason better. I might steal it. (never trust an addict with the good stuff)
I think most of us are afraid of being forgotten - and most of us will be. But that does not mean we cannot try - we definitely should. It is certainly an objective.
That being said, first and foremost I write because it makes me happy.
Oh, one more thing - I think you forgot to post the recipe....:-)
Those look soooo delicious :0) I can't wait to try them.
Nope . . . not just you. I think about that as well. :)
Now those look like really, really good cookies.
Oh, my gosh that cookie looks scrumptious!!
And nope, you definitely aren't on your own.
Cookies AND truffles? Wowsa!
I don't know how much of my life is worth talking (or writing) about, but I do know that I'm happy. And I write better when I'm happy.
Delicious cookies!
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Congrats on the blog awards, Peggy. And those cookes, yum, they look super scrumptious!
commutinggirl-- Yep. That would be nice. :-) And my mouth hung open for a while, too.
Susanna-- I know, right? I was lucky enough to actually have some delivered right to my door. It definitely rocked.
Elizabeth-- Thanks for stopping by! Subscribing is an excellent idea.
Lynn(e)-- Definitely better than cookies! Thank you!
Richard-- Awww, thanks! That's so awesome!
Tanya-- Hahaha! Go ahead. Steal it. Franklin won't mind. It may even make him happy. :)
E.D.-- Definitely it's most important to write because it makes you happy! It needs to be number one for sure. And the recipe is in the photo credit link right below the picture. I've got your back. :)
Elisabeth-- They are, and you definitely should.
The Golden Eagle-- Whew! It's not just me!
Lynda-- Yeah, they do! And it's nice to know I'm not alone. :)
E.R.-- Great combination, right? Almost as perfect of a combo as writing and happiness. :)
Nas-- I hope you have a great weekend, too!
LynNerdKelley-- Thank you! And I know! I can't stop staring!
