Quotes and Cookies: As it needs to be

"Write your story as it needs to be written. Write it honestly, and tell it as best you can. I'm not sure that there are any other rules. Not ones that matter."

~Neil Gaiman

To all my fellow rule-following-inclined friends, did you hear that? Neil THE MAN Gaiman himself said that there are only three rules that matter. Write a story honestly, the best you can, and how it needs to be written.

To everyone who likes to break the rules: Neil THE MAN Gaiman gives you permission.

I think that deserves a cookie, don't you?

Happy Friday!

For the record I only come for the cookies. Okay that made me sound like a greedy person! But what is there not to love about a blog about writing and cookies all in one place?

Take care girl!

What is it about the cookies? I know, I love them too! :-)

Rene and Cynthia-- Writing and cookies should ALWAYS go together! Cookies make you a better writer. :)

Awesome quote! I love it. And those cookies look divine!

Peggy - I agree! Writing and cookies should always go together. Love the quote, too!

I've heard that quote before--now I keep it on my computer to look at every now and then...because if Neil Gaiman says so, it must be so! (He is definitely one of my very favorite modern authors...)
And the cookies look delicious...similar half-moon cookies play a large role in a book I'm working on!

I came over from Chantele's blog and I love that Neil Gaiman said that. I think everyone should try to write outside the box. Those cookies look amazing.

These are chocolate dipped shortbread, right? I make them every Christmas, only mine are old school Canadian, meaning there's a piece of maraschino cherry in the center. They taste as good as they looks!

Neil Gaiman is one of the most talented writers alive. He's someone I would quake in my shoes to meet. His advice is awesome.

Hi Peggy! I just became a follower, which I would've sworn I'd already done weeks ago! And your post today is something I really needed to read. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful weekend!

I wish I could set The Rules on fire and dance all over the ashes. Sometimes I get so bogged down trying to do everything perfectly and systematically that I lose sight of what I'm really writing for. This quote is a great reminder. It helps that there's cookies :)

I love visiting for the insight... Aaaaaand C is for cookie that's good enough for me, cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C. I gave you an award on my blog today. Would you come and accept?

David P. King said...

Hear, hear! I wouldn't really call the rules "rules" anyway. It's more of a guideline (who follows those, right?). :)

*now I've got a hanker'n for cookies*

Talli Roland said...

Thanks for the cookie! Yum yum!

Have a great weekend.

Rachel Bean said...

Oh yeah, that one definitely deserves a cookie. If only we got a cookie for every time we broke the rules.... ;)

Anway, so I've given you a blog award!! Stop on by to pick it up :)

My mouth is WATERING.

Also, what that says to ME is that I need to write the story like I would write the story, not anyone else. When I finish a book I totally loved, I find myself trying to emulate what the author did, but I'm not that author and have to write a "jolene" book, not a "john green" book, lol.

It is not fair to post a photo of cookies like this for us to drool over. Just sayin'.

Great advice. Now tell the agents to take it.

Those cookies look to die for!

Love the quote.

Now, if you could just find a way to distribute those cookies over the net...

Katie Gates said...

I agree with those simple rules. Just ride the ride and let the story unfold! (Break only for cookies.)

O dude, those cookies look yummy! And if GAIMAN said it, it's gotta be true! I like it when things like that are true! hehe

Abby-- Me, too. :)

Maeve-- I swear cookies make you more productive. They're a must!

Faith-- Cookies play a huge role in your WIP? Why did I never think of that before? Seriously awesome. :)

Patti-- I'm glad you came over. Welcome! I think you're right- we SHOULD try to write outside the box.

E.R.-- Yours sound SO GOOD.

Michael-- Me, too, with the quaking. That'd be the best!

Leigh Ann-- Awesome! They're really your favorite? Oh... I mean... Yes, I knew that. It's totally why I chose them today. :) I hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Elizabeth-- *clinks cookies* Cheers!

Lynn(e)-- I think so, too. You're welcome!

Carrie-- Hahaha! You're welcome. I hope your weekend was great!

Becky-- I'd swear you were, too. I remember seeing your face smiling at me from over there. I think Blogger was just messing with us. I hope you had a wonderful weekend, too!

The Writing Well-- Awww! Thanks for the award! That's SO SWEET. I'm accepting on my blog today. (And thanks for the cookie song, too.)

E.D.-- That would be the BEST, wouldn't it?

Katie-- Not only is your advice great, it made me laugh!

Trisha-- It's totally gotta be true. :)

Okay..Blogger is definitely messing with me. I didn't see my photo as one of your newest followers, so I looked all the way through, and yep..there I am about halfway in the middle. Whas'up with that? Have a wonderful, blissful week, Peggy!!
