Quotes and Cookies: Circumstances

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them."

~George Bernard Shaw

Don't you love this quote? It says that no matter what, you can go out and accomplish whatever it is you want to accomplish! Nothing is insurmountable. Nothing is big enough or strong enough to hold you back forever. Finding or making the right circumstances might be hard... maybe even extremely so, but it can be done.

I'm not a champagne drinker, but these cookies kind of have a champagne-y feel to them. So, I raise my cookie in a toast! Here's to finding or creating the circumstances you need in 2012!

Have an awesome and safe New Years, everyone! I'll see you bright and early in 2012.

Great quote. And appropriate, too. My new WiP involves a guy who is all-too willing to blame his problems on his circumstances. It's going to lead him to some very bad places....

And, yes, those are very champagne-y cookies. They look light and fluffy.

May 2012 be the best year of your life. And 2013. And 2014. (as the case may be:). Love you Pegs.

Super quote, Peggy! I think I'll copy and paste and hang in my office right at my computer. I need these words. How'd ya know?? :-)

Happy New Year, Peggy! Let's make it our best year yet! <3 you.

This is awesome. I'm a firm believer in the American Dream - not the one that involves winning or stealing your money, but the one where if you work your tush off, anything is possible.
I also would add the quote "I didn't say it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it."

Holla if you know it!
Have a great New Year, Peggy. See you next time!

Doesn't Shaw have some of the greatest quotes ever? Those cookies look yummy.

And here's to creating opportunity in 2012.

Happy New Year.

I prefer cookies too.

I think sometimes bad circumstances aren't in our control, but if we take the opportunity to overcome them we can realize how strong we are.

Love the quote. I believe luck is a big part of the publishing process, but I also believe if you never put yourself out there or look for opportunities, no amount of luck is going to help. Oh, and meringues are fat free! Added bonus :)

That is one of the most sensible quotes I have ever read. So many people, even people I know very well and love heaps, blame the way they are on what other people have done, on the circumstances of their life, on anything that's happened to them. Sometimes it's good to stand back, take a look at your life, and realise that no one can make you be something you don't want to. You can change yourself. It's not easy to do it, to fight against circumstance, but circumstance isn't the end of it.

Sorry if I've read too much into this. I just LOVE this quote. I'll have to write that down somewhere.

Kristine said...

I like this one too! It's all about coming out on top and not letting circumstances bring you down. It's something everyone needs reminded of every so often. Especially me!

Golden Eagle said...

I completely agree with that quote--it's true that many people consider their current situation to be part of the "circumstances", when there are often alternative things they could be doing to change that situation.

Happy New Year! :)

Wonderful quote! And have a wonderful New Year!!

My brother has always accused me of having good luck. My husband takes offense at this, saying, "Luck is what you make happen." That sounds a lot like your quote. And if it's true, then I'm bound to enjoy achieving a few of my own goals for 2012.

Those cookies are so pretty!

Happy New Year, Peggy!!!
