Buried

I have been a bad blogger lately.

It's not that I don't love it! And every day I hate not knowing what's going on with you guys. It's just a very unfortunate bi-product of some insane deadlines. (Plus, there's kids who need a mom... a hubby who needs a wife...) But soon. Soon..... I have third round edits due this week, then it's possible I'll have a 2-3 week breather before copy edits arrive. (Who's that calling my name? Ahh! Book 2! I had almost forgotten you were over there! We'll hang out soon. I promise.)

But until I get that breather, my desk has been feeling a little like this:

What do you mean? My head totally matches with my body. And I could totally be smiley in a desk like this. And I totally still use a phone with a cord.

And do you know what helps when your desk is feeling like that? Looking at desks that don't. (If your desk is feeling like the one above, go ahead and salivate at these.)

Check out the desktop space! I WANT THAT SPACE. AND THOSE WINDOWS.

Do you know what? Forget the desk. I just want to work here:

Has your summer been more full of work or play? And when you are working, where do YOU want to work?

Thank you so much, E.D. at (Not) Just Another Writer for the Kreative Blogger award!

The problem with looking at all those clean desks is they make me feel like a total slob! I look at my desk and think, "I really need to clean this space up"--and then I don't.

I've been up and down as well. I'm really working hard to finish my rewrite, which is basically a complete overhaul. That and having the kids home, unexpected trips to the hospital, and family visiting, it's a miracle I've gotten anything done.

I hope you're finding time to enjoy your summer!

Peggy! You always photoshop up the best pictures! I love it! You're doing amazing with managing all those edits and all the things for every day life! Hopefully you'll get a good break soon! :) HUGS!

I just moved my computer to the storage room because I wasn't getting much work done, but its so dark and dreary. Those other offices look so much better. Good luck with the edits.

Ah, these are great! One of my girlfriends totally inspired me to redo my workspace over the next couple weeks, and those pictures are great for my Martha Stewart Reject self!! :)

Those desks only look that way until someone buys them...

Your kids are always welcome to get some auntie time! :)

is it bad that my desk looks like that without all the work overload?

Those are nice desks but there are not enough books! I want my writing space/desk to be in a room full of books. All tidy on their shelves of course. Except the ones I'm reading.

Good luck with all the work.

Not nearly enough of either. Just keep pushing on - you're doing awesome!

Actually, I just bought a cord phone for my landline because only my mum phones me on it, and it didn't cost a lot. But now I feel insanely old fashioned.

I love the look of some of those desks, but I love the ocean more!

Peggy, LOVE the picture of you at that desk! Hilarious! I am right there with you, too. I haven't been blogging near as much as I used to, and I, like you, miss reading what's going on with my bloggy friends! BUT, writing our book is our priority, so that's a good thing!! Write On!
P.S. Haven't you heard that a clean desk is the sign of a dull and boring person??!! :D

I'd like to be writing at a desk (and should be soon). Unfortunately, I have to settle for a table, coach, bed, or the floor for the moment.

I LOVE your photoshopping! It always makes me laugh!

Much luck with deadlines and revisions! Ack! We totally forgive you for putting your writing over your blog (duh)!

I think if I had the desk with the dinosaur I'd be much more inclined to sit and work haha.

Waahh. I want a nice desk like that. Mine's pull of books, paper and balls of wool.

I love the first picture. That one would be my dream writing room.

Good luck with everything. Blogging definitely has to take a second place at times like that.

Yes, they are beautiful desks, but they're staged. I know cuz that's what I do for a living. But you're right, that one with the huge windows is to DIE for!!

As for my summer, I'm kind of where you are, in the middle of all that preparing-to-publish stuff. Maybe we'll both get back to regular writing and blogging soon!

Third round edits?? Dude... I will bring you cookies. Good luck!

And yeah, my writing desk doesn't even compare to these. Great pics!

My summer has been all about baseball! I wanted this summer to be MY summer of writing and reading but instead my son got on an all-star team (husband is coaching) and we are heading to Arkansas in a few weeks for the national championship. It has turned into an all summer affair. BTW, my desk is just a fold up table so I would take ANY of those desks pictured, even the one covered in paper.

My office looks like a children's play room. I have a huge muriel that I painted years ago on the wall. Artwork from kids, the random teddy bear that someone special gave me, special rocks that I found on a trip, my special writing blanket (that a cp made me) and my rocking chair that I rocked our daughter in when she was born. I have an art table, a desk, two big bookshelves, a file cabinet and a sofa table for my printer. My closet looks like the art supply closet in an elementary school. LOL...you can take the teacher out of the classroom, but....

Hah! I love the visuals. :) My desk is a wreck right now. It always is when I'm writing.

Have you ever seen Jennifer Hillier's office? I'm jealous!

I completely want that dinosaur thingy whatever it is. Don't be sorry for having a life outside of blogging! As much as we love this space, it needs to take a back seat sometimes.

All work - but not writing work. Major whipping this house back into order. My office looks a little too much like the paper pile. You make me smile, so nice to catch up again.

I really want the crazy globe desk, not that my laptop would fit on it of course. Instead, my real life writing space is the couch when nobody's home or wherever I can drag the laptop.

'An empty desk is the sign of an empty mind.' Albert Einstein. Who am I to argue with the man?

Coleen Patrick said...

I thought it was just me who liked looking up photos of pretty offices! I found one that had windows like the one you liked, but with the view of the ocean like your last photo. Ah, serene! But I wonder how much work I'd actually get done. :)

I think the summer has been busy for everyone! I know I haven't been half the blogger (or writer) I want to be. Thanks for the desk inspiration :)

Donna K. Weaver said...

Oh, man. Your first picture looks a lot like my office right now. It's taking its toll on me, too. What would really help is when my hubby can move the window from the north (now looks into a room, believe it or not) to the east and I can have access to lots of lovely sunshine and a view of Timp. Then I will be in heaven. lol

For now, I'll have to be satisfied with a clean desk.

Oh, I wish I wrote at desks like those. They're so clean and open . . .

It's totally okay to take a bloggy break now and then. I am just coming out of a long hiatus and have found that I still have followers and comments and all that, which came as a surprise almost. I've never been the power blogger that you are, but I just know we'll all be there even if you don't post for awhile! Good luck with the revisions you lucky 13-er!!!
P.S. I agree with the beach office. Definitely the best one ;)

Sadly, the summer's been quite full of work so far. But there are still some fun times in between all the chaos. Hope you get unburied soon!

It's taken me two days to get to reading this. If you're buried, I'm screwed!

Susanna Leonard Hill said...

I've got the buried desk, but boy do those clean ones look nice! How do people keep their desks like that? Good luck with the edits - you can do it! :)

Oh wow I LOVE this post! Those desks are to die for and that pic of you surrounded by papers is hilarious!

Taffy said...

Hi Peggy! I haven't seen you forever! Good luck on all your edits! I'm SOOOO excited for you!

I love the first few uncluttered desks! (I'll pass on the weird ones. *lol*) But I'm sorry you feel so swamped!!

You know what I'd love to hear about when you have time and are able? Details about the editing process you're going through! I know you can't give details without posting spoilers, but I'd love to hear the general things. :)

Both work and play. Love those offices. I think that the time has come to clean mine up!

Hang in there, you are getting so much accomplished.
